Dr. Susie Park, Pharm D., BCPP

University of Southern California

Dr. Susie Park received her Pharm D. from the USC School of Pharmacy. She completed a one-year residency in psychiatric pharmacy practice and subsequently obtained the Board of Pharmaceutical Specialty in psychiatry. Currently, she is an Associate Professor of Clinical Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Economics and Policy. Her ongoing research projects include pharmacogenetics of psychiatry and identifying relationships between genomic markers and psychiatric disease and other chronic diseases such as hepatitis C and HIV.

1.  Categorize and characterize sleep-wake disorders.
2.  Identify common co-morbidities and etiologies of insomnia.
3.  Describe sleep parameter goals when managing insomnia.
4.  Recommend pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic management of insomnia.
5.  Differentiate between zolpidem-containing products by their brand names and dosage forms.
6.  Counsel a patient starting or changing a medication to manage insomnia.

BIPOLAR DISORDERS: TREATING THE UPS AND DOWNS

Objectives:

  1.  Identify key clinical features of bipolar disorder mania and depression and list the DSM-5 diagnostic criteria for each.
  2. Apply information derived from treatment guidelines for managing bipolar disorders to direct patient
  3. Evaluate pharmacotherapy in managing bipolar disorders.
  4. Create a treatment plan for managing bipolar depression.
  5. Outline an appropriate patient-specific treatment plan, including appropriate patient counseling and monitoring parameters.
